SPC Samlip Establishes the ‘ESG Committee’

SPC Samlip said on August 6 that it has established the ‘ESG Committee’ to run the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) management system as part of an effort to create a sound food industry culture.

On August 5, SPC Samlip decided to establish its ESG committee right under the Board of Directors in consideration of the importance and expertise of ESG management. The ESG Committee will review ESG strategies, policies, and promotion activities, while being in charge of managing and supervising the company’s ESG-related business execution.

The ESG Committee is composed of five external directors to strengthen the independence of its decision-making process. It plans to assist in strengthening the company’s social responsibility for sustainable management through experts in different fields such as law, labor, fair trade, and food safety.

SPC Samlip will soon use eco-friendly packages as part of the ‘Good For All’ campaign, which is a priority task for ESG management. In the second half of this year, ‘Bio-PET,’ a 100% recyclable plastic made from sugar cane ingredients, will be used in the package of ‘Pig in the Garden,’ a retail salad brand. The company also plans to introduce a sandwich package using a container based on the eco-friendly foamed polylactic acid (PLA) made from vegetable materials. The company will continuously expand its eco-friendly packaging products.

In addition, tasks as part of achieving mid- to long-term goals such as reducing carbon emissions and waste, developing product groups that consider consumer health and nutrition, coexistence with local communities, and strengthening partnerships with suppliers will be carried out sequentially.

An official of SPC Samlip said, “SPC Samlip will take the lead in creating a sound food culture within our industry through active ESG management practices and strive to realize social values through win-win partnerships with the local community. Based on this ESG Committee establishment, we will accelerate our ESG management efforts.”

Meanwhile, in June, SPC Samlip held the ‘Customer-Friendly ESG Management Promise Day’ event to celebrate World Environment Day, and announced detailed tasks for ‘Good For All’ campaign based on the four pillars of the environment, health, society, and trust.
